This is a joint master's degree programme of 3 universities--China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, Montanuniversität Leoben and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg. Students completing the joint master degree programme of Advanced Mineral Resources Development will earn master degree awarded by the 3 partner universities. The degree programme starts in September 2020, starting from Leoben, Austria.

I.University Overview

Founded in 1909, China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing is a national key university directly supervised by China Ministry of Education, which has been listed into the national “211 Project”, the “985 Project Innovation Platform”, as well as the “World First-Rate Discipline Construction University”. It is also one of the initial member universities for the Strategic Alliance of Industrial Technology Innovation, with its development supported jointly by the Ministry of Education and China’s State Administration of Work Safety.

Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria is the country’s university for mining, metallurgy and materials. It was founded in 1840 as the Steiermärkisch-Ständische Montanlehranstalt in Vordernberg, Stvria, Austria's mining region. In 1849 Peter Tunner relocated the university to nearby Leoben. That year the university had a mere 48 students enrolled. The University of Leoben is a member of TU Austria, an association of three Austrian universities of technology which offers education and conducts research in the fields of mining, metallurgy and materials science.

The Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg is a German university of technology with about 4300 students in the city of Freiberg,Saxony. It was established in 1765 by Prince Franz Xaver, regent of Saxony, based on plans by Friedrich Wilhelm von Oppel and Friedrich Anton von Heynitz, and is the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world. The chemical elements indium(1863) and germanium(1886) were discovered by scientists of Freiberg University. The polymath Alexander von Humboldt studied mining at the Bergakademie Freiberg in 1791-1792.

II.Programme Structure

The joint master degree programme, International Master of Science in Advanced Mineral Resources Development, covers 120 ECTS points. This corresponds to the usual study period of four semesters (two years). In each semester 30 ECTS points are usually acquired. Students will study the first semester at Montanuniversität Leoben, the second semester at The Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, and the third and fourth semester at China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing.
